What is the degree program about?
Classical Archaeology, Christian Archaeology and Prehistory and Early History (Prehistoric Archaeology) – these are the three subject areas, one of which is chosen as a major in the Master’s degree program, while some courses from the other areas are taken alongside your studies. Within two years (4 semesters) you will deepen your previously acquired practical and theoretical knowledge. A successfully completed Master’s degree qualifies you for independent scientific work in your (or one of the) field(s) and opens up the possibility of further qualifications such as a doctorate.
Special features are the very extensive collections of the Institutes of Classical Archaeology and Pre- and Early History, which are among the largest of their kind in Germany and allow an intensive study of original materials. The very good supervision ratio also makes it possible to study quickly and comprehensively. Furthermore, FAU is the only university in Bavaria with a chair for the older Stone Age (Paleolithic). Another special feature is a possible training in non-invasive prospection methods (magnetometer prospection) and the processing of the results with the help of geoinformation systems.
